Respiratory gas analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Respiratory gas analysis has now become a standard monitoring technique in anaesthesia: in theatres, intensive care unit, and for the transfer of ventilated patients. The AAGBI Recommendations for Standards of Monitoring during Anaesthesia and Recovery (2007) recommend as essential components during an anaesthetic an oxygen analyser with an audible alarm and a carbon dioxide analyser; a vapour analyser is also essential whenever a volatile anaesthetic is delivered. There are also requirements to monitor ambient anaesthetic agent concentrations in hospitals to conform to COSHH standards. An appreciation of the current systems available and their design allows the user to utilize the best monitor for each situation.

Can we Replace Arterial Blood Gas Analysis by Pulse Oximetry in Neonates with Respiratory Distress Syndrome, who are Treated According to INSURE Protocol?
Neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), who are treated according to INSURE protocol; require arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis to decide on appropriate management. We conducted this study to investigate the validity of pulse oximetry instead of frequent ABG analysis in the evaluation of these patients. From a total of 193 blood samples obtained from 30 neonates <1500 grams with RDS,...
متن کاملThe Respiratory Toxicities of Mustard Gas
Sulfur mustard is one of the major potent chemical warfare agents. It was widely used against not only military personnel but also civilian people ofIranduring the last years (1984–1988) of the Iraq–Iran war. A number of studies were performed regarding the acute and long-term consequences of sulfur mustard on respiratory system. Currently, many aspects of leading respiratory disorder that was ...
متن کاملThe association of respiratory symptoms and lung function with the use of gas for cooking
The domestic combustion of fossil fuels, especially the use of unvented gas appliances such as gas stoves, produces high indoor concentrations of several agents potentially harmful to health [1, 2]. Some [3–8] but not all [9, 10] studies have reported increased respiratory symptoms suggestive of either increased respiratory infection or asthma in children living in homes with gas cookers compar...
متن کاملThe Effects of Occupational Exposure to Isoflurane Anesthetic Gas on Cardiopulmonary Function and Practical Capacity of Operating Room Staff
Introduction: The effects of chronic exposure to isoflurane anesthetic gas at a concentration of 13 ppm on the function of cardiovascular and respiratory systems of hospital operating room staff are investigated in this study. Methods and Materials: Subjects included operating room staff (experimental group: 10 men and 10 women) and control group has been selected from other wards of hospital ...
متن کاملArterial blood gas analysis or oxygen saturation in the assessment of acute asthma?
BACKGROUND A study was undertaken to determine if arterial blood gas estimation is always necessary in the assessment of patients presenting to hospital with acute severe asthma, or whether oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximetry is a reliable screening test for predicting those in respiratory failure. METHODS A prospective study was conducted in a specialist respiratory medical unit....
متن کاملDetermination of respiratory gas flow by electrical impedance tomography in an animal model of mechanical ventilation
BACKGROUND A recent method determines regional gas flow of the lung by electrical impedance tomography (EIT). The aim of this study is to show the applicability of this method in a porcine model of mechanical ventilation in healthy and diseased lungs. Our primary hypothesis is that global gas flow measured by EIT can be correlated with spirometry. Our secondary hypothesis is that regional analy...
